Best Coast Covers Skeeter Davis’ ‘The End of the World,’ Listen Before 6pm

Best Coast catches Rapture fever, releasing a self described “crappy garageband” version of “The End of the World” as a free stream.

6pm has started ringing in around the globe and so far the world appears to be doing its usual thing. Preacher Harold Camping may have predicted the rapture would being in the time zone of Christmas Island, but as DJ Pangburn pointed out yesterday, if the apocalypse has to begin somewhere, “it would have to be Los Angeles, which lies along the San Andreas Fault.” So I’m not counting my chickens until the clock at The Grove chimes 6pm.

That leaves those in the U.S. anywhere from one to four hours to listen to Los Angeles band Best Coast’s version of Skeeter Davis’ 1962 heartbreak hit “The End of the World.” Singer Bethany Cosentino called it a “Crappy Garageband cover” in a Tweet, but it sounds beautiful and pays great tribute to Davis.

Listen to Best Coast below and watch Davis sing her original version in 1965.
