Stephin Merritt is releasing 14 rare tracks from his Merge Records days. The record, “Obscurities,” will feature tracks recorded before the Magnetic Fields’ “69 Love Songs” came out. Most of the songs are from 1994-1999, and five of them are previously unreleased.

Below you can hear “Forever and a Day,” from the unfinished science fiction musical “The Song From Venus,” which was a collaboration with Daniel Handler (a.k.a. Lemony Snickett). “Obscurities” is out August 23 on Merge Records.
