An upcoming bio-pic about the eccentric and ingenious musician Daniel Johnston, by writer/producer David Miller, may star Phillip Seymour Hoffman The Guardian reported. Miller is allegedly working on the film, which he describes as an "epic superhero story," and is hoping to land Hoffman as the starring role; along with Johnny Depp who may play Johnston's older brother. A lot of speculation is surrounding the new movie like: Isn't there already a documentary about Johnston? Yes there is, but Miller explains that "it doesn't realy cover the same stuff as the Devil In Daniel Johnston documentary.

The 2005 documentary on the brilliant and equally troubled singer is incredible, and this new project aims to further explore certain areas of Johnston’s life, the gripping documentary didn’t examine. A potential idea for the flick was to have Gabriel Sunday (the star of Miller’s 2009 film My Suicide) to direct and star in it, but it seems that he may just play a young Johnston. Right now, Miller is in the thick of writing the screenplay, handling the pre-production and approaching actors, so not a lot is known about the project just yet. All I hope is that it is more like Control, the Joy Division bio-pic, and less like 1989 Great Balls Of Fire.
