Robyn releases a mesmerizing new video for “Call Your Girlfriend,” off her latest opus “Body Talk.”
Robyn’s new video for “Call Your Girlfriend” from last year’s opus “Body Talk” features the Swedish singer dancing around in a garage in one long, unbroken shot. There are a few lights. And that’s about it, aside from some appropriately European-looking clothes including a furry jacket and pink high-tops that look like they could have been wardrobe extras from the shopping scene in “European Vacation.”
And it’s totally mesmerizing. In a time when most artistically-respected new music (other than hip-hop) is getting increasingly obtuse, filled with blips and bloops and enough subtlety to render itself nearly invisible, it’s always refreshing to crank up some Robyn. The “Body Talk” songs feel no shame in slamming you over the head with a hyper-catchy chorus that commands your full attention like a strong shot of whisky.
And Robyn’s intensity as a performer matches the tenor of her hooks. She’s riveting. Even Beyonce usually needs backup dancers to achieve this kind of effect.
