Gemma Ray premieres video for new single ‘Rescue Me’

It’s been four years since Gemma Ray’s debut full-length “The Leader” was released on Bronzerat records, but it seems 2012 is poised to be her breakthrough year. Her forthcoming album “Island Fire” is out May 29 and is already being praised by NPR music, while she was hailed by Village Voice as one of the “Best of SxSW” this year.

Her new single “Rescue Me” has an enchanted, effortless feel that goes well with the Island-inspired album art, as if Lana Del Rey nodded to Patsy Cline and Hawaiian music rather than hip-hop and “Lolita.” The subtly psychedelic video has an old-fashioned style sensibility with Gemma surrounded by bobbing heads in a trippy grocery store and driving a purple car through a charmingly harmless meteor shower that sends fiery balls down to earth around her.

Check out the video below, and look out for tour dates next month with Ane Brun.
