Watch M83 live at Coachella 2012

Coachella has been streaming the sets of artists such as Radiohead, Pulp and St. Vincent. More proof of how important promoters think the festival is in the cultural ferment.

Yesterday, the M83 stream was posted. Anthony Gonzaelz & Co, rather oddly, seem far less epic in the open air of Coachella than they did in 2005 when I saw them perform (along with opening act Ulrich Schnauss) at the Empty Bottle in Chicago when they were touring in support of what I firmly believe is their best album, “Before the Dawn Heals Us.”

It’s as if Gonzalez felt the stakes needed to be raised beyond the music itself. That said, “Intro (ft. Zola Jesus)” is a great choice for an opener, although I’ll never understand why on his latest LP, “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming,” Gonzalez decided to sing in an upper register like some melodramatic, pubescent emo vocalist.

Anyway, it’s worth a viddy. And if you like what you see, look for tickets for next weekend—Coachella, in a cynical money grab, has the exact same schedule of artists, much to my consternation.
