Liveblogging the hilarious new R. Kelly video for ‘Share My Love’

  • Im assuming R. Kelly is playing inside of a bullet-ridden building. Either that or the set is supposed to look like it was made with a machine gun and cardboard.
  • Wait. Disco? What’s with this cheesy-ass beat? This is 2012. We…
  • (starts tapping foot)
  • Actually, wait, this beat is great. And catchy. Goddamit. He’s clearly going for some pseudo-Teddy Pendergrass shit right here and actually succeeding at it. Good for him.
  • Not sure I get the subplot of this video, which started off at a party and now seems to be about how much R. Kelly loves talking to black women and white women at the same time.
  • R. Kelly is an equal opportunity pee’er? Terrible joke.
  • They’ve abandoned any sort of “plot” for the video; sort of like R. Kelly. I kind of like him more for it. Kelly doesn’t give a fuck, clearly. It must be great fun to be a die-hard R. Kelly fan. I bet they are amazing people to drink with.
  • “Populate!” as a song hook is great. It really is.
  • The way R. Kelly says “share my love” it makes him sound like he’s walking around a party with a bowl full of love and asking you to try some.
  • R. Kelly is in it for the long hall. I think he really wants to be an R&B star in the oldies-station kind of way and had to go through this hip-hop phase to get to it. Is this the start of a new Kelly? Is this the beginning of a world-healing love fest? I’ve put the song on repeat. That’s how much I’m digging the new R. Kelly. He needs more like this and to never look back and to just keep going for that R&B oldies-station icon status. Keep reaching for that dream, man.
