Hear Johnny Marr play The Smiths’ ‘Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’ on BBC

As I get older my love for The Smiths grows fonder and fonder. Arguably one of the most talented bands ever, you would be hard pressed even in the streets of Williamsburg to find a person who honestly will admit that they do not like the band. Like divorces, when bands break up there are usually arguments about whom to support afterward and who was really the creative genius behind the band. The thing with The Smiths is that Morrissey is such an asshole that he makes it really easy to support Johnny Marr.

However I did not come here to start a Marr vs. Morrisey argument, but to instead point you in the direction of this wonderful cover of The Smiths “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” by Marr on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 program. The appearance on the program was one of his many media stops in support of his new solo album “The “Messenger.” Even years later the song still stands frozen in time—sad, sweet, and honest. If you would like, stream the entire performance here.
