Jim Morrison on why it felt great to be fat

Blank on Blank, a new PBS project that curates unpublished and forgotten interviews, released this animated clip today of Jim Morrison discussing his unlimited meal plan from college. Morrison gained something like 35 lbs for his Freshman 15, and he says it felt great.

“I felt like a large mammal, a big beast,” he says. “When I moved through the corridors or across the lawn, I just feel like I could knock anybody out of my way, you know? I was solid, man. It’s terrible to be thin and wispy because you could get knocked over by a strong wind.”

The piece is from Village Voice journalist Howard Smith’s unreleased 1969 interview with Morrison. For more, look at The Smith Tapes, a 12-disk set of interviews from 1969-71, including ones with Mick Jagger and John and Yoko.
