Watch Cold Cave’s surreal video for ‘Black Boots’
We’re big fans of Wes Eisold’s band Cold Cave. In recent years the band has been at the forefront in the resurgence of the gloom-punk movement. Eisold’s ability to mix dark themes with excellent lyrics and, at times catchy beats is unmatched in this generation.
With an excellent string of 7? singles in the bag-our favorite being the melodic “Oceans With No End”- and an upcoming US tour in the books, today we see the release of a very surreal music video for “Black Boots.” With haunting vocals “Black Boots” sees Eisold channeling Joy Division in the best way possible.
Famed cult director Slava Tsukerman (of “Liquid Sky” fame) creates a somewhat vintage expanse backdrop for Eisold to appear over. In a recent interview with Death and Taxes that is a must read for any Eisold fan he said this about the video:
“It was made cheaply with Slava, his imagination, a camera and me. He talked about how the failure of many movies is that they are made with a small budget yet try to attain the aspects of films that have gigantic budgets. But people aren’t stupid and it’s impossible to achieve that so you shouldn’t subscribe to that method. And this video was made with that mentality. It should be done around the time the tour begins in late April.”
The video fits the depressing vibe of the song which you can watch for yourself below. Check out Cold Cave in a town near you and pick up this split 7″ here.
