Rebecca Black is back and she’s covering Miley Cyrus

Hey! Remember Rebecca Black? It’s been a while, and it’s entirely possible that you blocked her out of your memory. Here, allow me to refresh it for you:

Oh yeah. That chick. Well, she’s back, and now she’s covering Miley Cyrus’s “We Can’t Stop.” Please to enjoy:

You know what? As much as that song annoys me, and as much as I was looking for something to giggle at this afternoon, I have to say that she doesn’t do a bad job. She’s on key, and sounds much better than when she was all robot-voiced. She’s certainly improved a lot from a technical standpoint in a year, and has thankfully stopped singing through her nose. In fact, I like her voice much more than Miley Cyrus’s.

The song was an interesting choice, given that last year Miley had “dissed” Black and Justin Bieber for trying to get famous via YouTube, instead of the way real artists traditionally become famous. You know, by having a famous father and a Disney show.

As terrible and cringey as “Friday” was, we have to give Rebecca Black for having a sense of humor about herself, and for continuing to try. If something like that happened to me when I was a teenager I’d probably try to join Witsec.
