Chris Pine shows off his singing skills on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Chris Pine was a guest on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Thursday night and, egged on by Jimmy Kimmel (and apparently Meryl Streep), he gave a preview of his singing voice, which you will soon be able to hear in the film adaptation of “Into the Woods.”

He sang a snippet of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” and based on the applause, the audience ate it up. In fact, the name of the clip on Hulu is “Chris Pine Sings Like an Angel, Serenades Jimmy Kimmel.” But for anyone who was actually listening instead of just immediately sharing the video on Tumblr, his voice is only okay.

Pine has a pretty good sense of pitch, but he it doesn’t take that much talent to imitate Frank Sinatra’s swoopy vocals. Pine has proved that he’s pretty good at gravelly-voiced jazz standards, but we’ll see how he does in the full blown musical film. At least he won’t stick out like a sore thumb in a cast full of actors whose vocal talent is questionable at best.
