Texas restaurant bans gay couple, gets destroyed on Yelp

Kelly Williams and his partner Colin Dewberry had just eaten at Big Earl’s Restaurant in Pittsburg, Texas when on the way out the waitress told them to never come back, because they are gay.

“Here at Big Earl’s, we like men to act like men and ladies to act like ladies, so we want you to never return,” the waitress explained, before adding, “we don’t serve fags here.”

Fortunately, the couple spoke out, and now Big Earl is meeting the same fate as Gary’s Chicaros in Oklahoma—it’s currently getting reviewed as one of the best gay bars ever on its Yelp page.

Since the story blew up, Earl has tried to defend himself, explaining that it’s a “family restaurant” and that he has a sign sign up on is front door that says, “Welcome to BIG EARL’S, Where MEN act like MEN and WOMEN act like LADIES.”

It turns out the homophobic waitress who dropped the slur is Earl’s daughter, and she apparently didn’t mean what she said. According to a post on Facebook, Big Earl explained,

Well, that clears things up! They’ll still serve gay people, they just hate them. Phew.

When asked to explain what “acting like a man” means, Earl told KLTV, “A man’s supposed to stand up and be a leader. He’s not supposed to be a woman. He’s not supposed to come in here in a dress.”

Which is an odd thing to hear from the owner of the “greatest gay bar west of New Orleans.”
