Fox News host thinks the metric system is to blame for AirAsia flight disappearance

It was only a matter of time before the speculation over missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 would venture into the realm of the stupid. We already blamed everyone we could think of during the Malaysia flight 370 disappearance, including aliens, so Fox News host Anna Kooiman really had to reach in her coverage on Sunday. Fortunately she found some untapped speculation to soak up a few minutes of airtime: The metric system.

Yes, that’s right: The metric system. “When we think about temperature, it’s Fahrenheit or Celsius. It’s kilometers or miles. You know, everything about their training could be similar, but different.”

After questioning a former FAA employee on whether air travel is safe in “that part of the world” (it is, her guest assured her), Kooiman’s co-host wondered whether “certain cultural aspects—a certain respect for procedure” might be the reason for Asian airline crashes this year. Subtle!
