Video of plane passengers tackling ‘jihadist’ makes Redditors go insane
This week, Reddit’s been blowing up with photos and video of a supposed attempting hijacking on a plane at Dulles International Airport on Monday night. The flight, which was confirmed by NBC News, was scheduled to depart for Denver when this unidentified man apparently began screaming and had run toward the doors of the flight deck and was immediately pinned down by passengers. Two men took off his shoes and checked for explosive devices.
“One held his feet and the other one kind of laid on top of him,” one passenger told ABC News. “Then the flight attendants went and got some plastic restraints for his arms. At one point when his head was down he said there were jihadists in the cargo hold and he did say ‘jihad’ a couple times.”
It probably doesn’t require an intelligence expert to recognize the suspect is mentally unfit, or that he’s just having a really bad day. But the “jihad” angle, I’m not so sure. Redditors seem to be sure about it, though. Of course they are.
OK, that last one maybe not so much. But, still, while commenters keep their blinders on and fire up the hate, government officials issued a statement to CNN that “there is nothing, so far, in the man’s background to suggest he has a connection to terrorists.”
