Guy behind SXSW ‘exclusively for white people’ stickers speaks out
Yesterday we told you about how Austin was all in a tizzy after someone took it upon him or herself to do a bit of direct action and hit the East Side’s most gentrifi-licious businesses with “Exclusively for White People” stickers. Now the man behind the stickers has made himself known, and he seems a rather delightful fellow.
As it turns out, the culprit was lawyer Adam Reposa, who strikes me as one of those distinctly Austinian characters. Shirtless, drunk, and sporting a sick eagle tattoo, he explains in his Texas drawl that the stickers were meant as a protest against the rampant gentrification and economic displacement in his fair city (emphasis mine):
Why I did it is pretty clear, because it would be obvious that even though people know the real problem, and the problem is that people without money are getting fucked. They’re getting pushed out and pretty quick this area of town is being turned into “whites only,” not by law like it used to be. And everyone is gonna jump on “that’s racist, that’s racist!” Man, this town and the way shit works is racist. And I knew that I could just bait all of y’all into just being as stupid as you are, just allowing the issue to be framed in the most simple way. “Oh, he said an offensive term. Let’s not worry about the actual condition of the ways things are, let’s worry about an offensive term.” And that’s how they got it, they got it sewed up.
He also starts talking about something called “The Technology” towards the end:
I don’t give a fuck, look at me. I use the technology every day. To create possibilities. Apply the technology in your life and stop worrying about getting snitched on, cause it don’t make a fuck what I did, I’m gonna do it again, I don’t give a fuck.
I, for one, would like to know more about this “technology” that has the power to improve our lives and save us from snitches. Let’s hope he keeps updating his Youtube channel of the same name.
