FKA twigs gives birth to new song ‘Glass & Patron’ via trippy music video
FKA twigs never ceases to push the boundary between art and music. The Gloucestershire born backup dancer turned recording artist flipped the industry upside down with her stunning debut release “LP1” in 2014. Genre defying. Forward thinking. Controversial. It was exactly what the mundane music landscape needed at the time.
Today we received Tahliah Debrett Barnett’s first new output since “LP1” courtesy of the 2015 YouTube Music Awards. This is important to note as listening to the track without viewing the video would do the production an injustice. As important-if not more- then the song itself is the video that accompanies it.
“Glass & Patron” is a tough song to swallow. Pretty at times, harsh at others, it is very reminiscent of early Bjork. Shot to an eerie woods background, the video begins by Tahliah birthing what can only be described as an endless scarf reminiscent of the ones your neighborhood rental clown pulls out of a hat. Obviously an analogy to what is adorned by those dancing on the catwalk later in the video, it truly plays to the distinct polarizing vibe the song hopes to give off.
The video evolves into said catwalk in the most glorious of fashions. The contrasting of dark and light highlights the beauty of the video. The creepy woods versus the straight-out-of-New-York-Fashion-Week runway ultimately makes this video one of the most interesting and successful productions we have witnessed this year.
“Glass & Patron” is the first piece of music to be revealed from a brand new FKA twigs EP that will be released later in the year.
