Anonymous wages ‘total war’ against Donald Trump
Once again, GOP frontrunner Donald Trump finds himself in the firing line of hacktivist collective Anonymous. In December 2015, the hackers came after Trump in response to his xenophobic comments about Muslims by launching an offensive against the site for his Trump Tower property. On March 4, the group posted a video asking hackers and regular folks alike to join their efforts in waging “total war” on Trump and reviving the #OpTrump campaign in order to bring down TrumpChicago.com on April 1. The video has been viewed over 1.7 million times since it was uploaded to YouTube.
The group is also planning to target other Trump web properties, including his personal, business, and campaign websites. This is in addition to the unverified personal information, including Trump’s supposed social security number, that the hacktivist group has already released.
“Dear Donald Trump, we have been watching you for a long time and what we see is deeply disturbing,” read the figure in the Guy Fawkes mask in the latest video. “Your inconsistent and hateful campaign has not only shocked the United State of America, you have shocked the entire planet with your appalling actions and ideas. You say what your current audience wants to hear but in reality, you don’t stand for anything except your personal greed and power. This is a call to arms.”
The masked individual then asks the viewers to “shut down his websites” and “research and expose what he doesn’t want the public to know.”
“We are encouraging every able person with a computer to participate in this operation,” said the masked Anonymous representative. “You do not need to know how to hack to support this important operation.”
It will be interesting to see if the collective accomplishes its goals, especially after the hyped KKK hack turned out to be underwhelming.
