‘Twinks 4 Trump’ a sampling of humiliations the alt-right wants to inflict on you

The first things I noticed at Tuesday night’s gay neofascist party during the RNC were the “Twinks 4 Trump” photos adorning the walls. Shot by alt-right believer Lucian Wintrich, the series depicts impossibly lithe androgynes posing in Trump hats and not much else and captioned on Instagram by quotes like “Don’t tell me it doesn’t work — torture works… Waterboarding is fine, but it’s not nearly tough enough, ok?” —Donald Trump. (Or as they prefer to call him, “Daddy.”)

Looking through this mixed bag of yuck and yum, it’s easy for any progressive-minded person to feel sad that someone so beautiful could harbor such rotten ideology, let alone multiple someones. Surely these twinks could not actually all be “for” Trump? And yet, the photos’ presence at the alt-right party — as well as the right-wing opinions on display in Wintrich’s blog — give off the impression of sincerity. GOProud co-founder Chris Barron even ended the night’s program of speakers by telling us that if we know any twinks for Trump, we should send them Wintrich’s way. So what gives?

First, it’s important to make the distinction between the “Twinks 4 Trump” photo project and the “@TwinksforTrump” Twitter account, the latter of which is a parody account run by a gay liberal. The Twitter account may retweet Wintrich’s photos, but they are not the same thing.

Also, despite having been reported in a semi-sincere fashion by the press, Wintrich never claimed his models were Trump supporters. (I have confirmation from at least one friend who knows that some of them are really not into Trump.) Rather, he attempts to indoctrinate their impressionable young minds with pro-Trump ideology during the shoots. As if models don’t have enough to deal with already.

“Throughout the shoot, we talk about politics,” Wintrich said. “A lot of them, to be completely honest, as well as gay people in general are not as opposed to Trump as the media shows. After a conversation with them, they’ll come to and say that the Republican nominee is better on gay issues than Hillary Clinton.”

I’m not sure which is worse: A photographer who wants to shoot literal jizz on you, or one who tries to inseminate you with lies about how Trump will help the LGBT community.

And yet, the idea of paying models to pose in Trump regalia while someone tries to woo them to the dark side is not necessarily at odds with the system proposed by members of the alt-right. In their ideal world, those with money and power will exist at the top of some social Darwinist food chain in which most people have no rights at all. Given this, the necessity of going fascist for pay is just one small preview of the humiliations that await us all, should the members of the Dark Enlightenment succeed in creating their neo-feudalist world order. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
