It’s unsettling how much Melania Trump’s father looks like her husband
Melania Trump’s parents Viktor and Amalija Knavs accompanied her as she finally made the move from Trump Tower to Washington D.C. on Sunday. According to Town & Country, the Knavs lived in Trump Tower and may be moving into the White House to stay close to their grandson, 11-year-old Barron Trump with whom they speak Slovenian.
Viktor, a former member of the Communist Party, is described as having a “big personality,” with a fleet of Mercedes Benzes to match.
From a 2016 GQ profile on Melania:
“Trump reminds me of Viktor,” Viktor’s friend and neighbor Tomaž Jeraj tells me. “He’s a salesman. He has business in his veins.” It’s a sentiment unanimous in Sevnica, where Viktor and Amalija still own their house and visit two or three times a year.
In the same profile, a Slovenian friend of Melania’s says that she was essentially looking for a “father figure” in her husband. The two men are astoundingly close in age. Knavs is 73 and the president is 70, making for a 35-year age difference with his wife.
When it comes to the Trump family, there’s something to be said for the Freudian notion that women look for their fathers in their partners. It isn’t lost on us that Ivanka Trump married a crooked slumlord who was born rich.
