Trump voters somehow surprised Trump is going to screw them over on healthcare
You may have noticed a trend in stories entailing working- and middle class-people being somehow surprised by a president who made a career out of screwing over working- and middle-class people is now screwing them over in his new role as public servant. On Thursday, CNN’s Alyson Camerota re-assembled her panel of Trump voters to check in with the president’s progress. It turned out that some of the people who put the president in office are now afraid he’s going to put them in an early grave over the looming Obamacare repeal.
“I have bipolar disorder, it’s a pretty severe case,” Trump voter Colleen England Byrd said. “And if he takes that away — Medicaid people, Medicare people, no medications, no doctors — it’s going to be like the zombie apocalypse, really running-through-the-streets crazy.”
Byrd said that she voted for Trump because “he promised something better” than the coverage provided by the ACA, and in fairness, he did.
“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump told The Washington Post in January. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.”
He also promised that no one would lose coverage, purchasing insurance wouldn’t cause financial hardship, and that he wouldn’t cut Medicaid or Medicare. The CBO scores for each failed version of the failed Obamacare repeal and replace bills say otherwise.
Granted, all the clues were there that the then-candidate had no fucking clue how to reform the American healthcare system, in addition to having no idea how to enact myriad other policies.
