Police investigating explosion at Minnesota Islamic center
Police are investigating an explosion at an Islamic center in Bloomington, Minnesota, which the Muslim American Society of Minnesota says was the result of a bomb being tossed into the building.
The explosion at the Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center occurred around 5 a.m. on Saturday, and although there were roughly 15 to 20 people gathered for morning prayers, nobody was injured. The explosion went off in the imam’s office, which is where most of the damage was limited too.
The center’s executive director Mohamed Omar told police that one person saw a pickup truck speed away after the explosion. Asad Zaman, the executive director of Muslim American Society of Minnesota, called the explosion an “arson attack” and says the blast may have been the result of a small fire bomb. Zaman also claims that a witness saw someone standing outside the window to the imam’s office before the explosion.
Law enforcement officials aren’t saying what the cause of the explosion was just yet, however, as the investigation is still ongoing.
The FBI and the ATF have taken over the investigation.
