Trump and Melania skipping Kennedy Center honors because nobody wants them there
Donald and Melania Trump announced on Saturday they will not be attending the Kennedy Center Honors this year, mostly due to the fact that the people being honored don’t want them there.
“The President and First Lady have decided not to participate in the year’s activities to allow the honorees to participate without political distraction,” a statement from the White House said.

Three of the five honorees, Lionel Richie, Norman Lear, and Carmen de Lavallade, already announced they would not attend the White House reception that goes along with the award ceremony.
“In light of the socially divisive and morally caustic narrative that our existing leadership is choosing to engage in, and in keeping with the principles that I and so many others have fought for, I will be declining the invitation to attend the reception at the White House,” de Lavallade said in a statement on Thursday.
Gloria Estefan said she would be attending the White House reception, specifically so she could talk with Trump about his stance on immigration. LL Cool J hasn’t made an announcement one way or the other.
It must be tough for Trump to have to forego all the fancy shit that comes with being president, as that was almost certainly one of the reasons he ever bothered running for office. Realizing he can’t have a horse drawn carriage pull him through the streets of London or even attend an award ceremony without everyone booing him must drive him up the wall.
It turns out becoming president doesn’t automatically make everybody love and respect you. Sad!
