Jimmy Kimmel on GOP healthcare bill: ‘We can’t let them do this to our children’
It’s weird that comedians in 2017 are so scared of lawmakers enacting legislation to kill people that they’re devoting monologues to explain why that’s cruel, but here we are. Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel offered another reasonable argument against a Republican bill that will make essential health coverage prohibitively expensive for millions of Americans who currently have insurance under Obamacare.
The GOP’s latest offering is being pushed by Senator Bill Cassidy, who visited Kimmel’s show in May to promise sensible legislation and has used Kimmel’s name to promote his policies, so dude had to know this was coming. Probably best to not invoke a late-night host’s name to advertise your lies if you want to keep that shit under the radar.
“He said he wants coverage for all, no discrimination based on pre-existing conditions, lower premiums for middle-class families, and no lifetime caps,” Kimmel says. “Guess what. The bill does none of those things.”
Kimmel goes on to remind viewers of that time Cassidy told him on-air that he believes every American, regardless of income, deserves regular check-ups, maternity care, and other services that people with quality insurance receive. The new legislation works against this goal.
“This guy, Bill Cassidy, just lied right to my face,” Kimmel says.
If you’re offended by Cassidy’s complete disrespect toward Kimmel, not to mention his intention to deprive sick and poor people of health care, you should probably call your senator.
