Even Chris fucking Christie thinks Graham-Cassidy is terrible

Chris Christie, one of the least popular governors in the history of New Jersey, has come out against the latest effort to repeal Obamacare, known as Graham-Cassidy. Christie joins pretty much every Democrat along with late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel in opposing the bill, so-named for the senators who came up with it.

“I oppose Graham-Cassidy because it is too injurious to the people of New Jersey,” Christie said on Wednesday. “I’m certainly not going to support a bill that takes nearly $4 billion from people in the state.”

This is notable considering Christie was a visible (often times hilariously so) member of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, and POTUS has not stopped whining about repealing ACA since announcing his presidential run. While the New Jersey governor is breaking with the man he worked to get elected, and a considerable chunk of his own party, Christie still wants to repeal Obamacare, of course.

“I don’t think it’s right to take this money away in this manner,” Christie went on. “I think there are ways to do the block granting that are much better. But I know that this comes from a place where the folks who didn’t expand [Medicaid coverage] now want some of that money back. But they chose not to expand at the time.”

Christie is referring to states that chose not to expand Medicaid under Obamacare, literally turning down free money and denying coverage to poor residents out of spite.

It’s worth pointing out that both New Jersey senators are Democrats and Christie’s term is up in a few months, so he faces literally zero pressure to back this bill. It’s not exactly a brave moral stand, but it’s something at least.
