Matt & Kim ‘Cameras’ Remixed by Mike D
The Beastie Boys’ Mike D gives Matt & Kim’s single an electro spin.
It seems like Mike D spent the majority of his year honing his DJ-producer skills; he’s showered 2010 with a flood of remixes, from an Uffie club-banger to his addictive dub take on “Rude Boy,” and now, the Beastie Boy’s latest DJ endeavor comes as an electro remix of Matt & Kim’s “Cameras.”
For the reworking, Mike D’s stripped away everything but Matt’s vocals from the original recording. The song starts off with a fairly minimalist beat and a descending synth progression similar to that heard on “Open Letter To NYC,”. Halfway through the verse some intertwining synth melodies are added, which build up to a pulsating, bass-heavy burst by the time the chorus hits.
All in all, Mike D delivers an interesting, electronic take on the Brooklyn duo’s single. However, I can’t help but think that the instrumental, which could easily be used for a hip-hop song, would sound exponentially better with the Beasties rapping over it.
The Beastie Boys’ “Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2? is scheduled to be released next year – and is one of 2011’s most anticipated albums. “Cameras” can be found on Matt & Kim’s latest effort “Sidewalks” out now via FADER Label. Check out the track below and grab it over at iTunes.
