Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly Recreate Christmas Classic
Funny or Die released a video clip today featuring comedy champs Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly reenacting the classic 1977 performance of “Peace On Earth/The Little Drummer Boy,” as performed by David Bowie and Bing Crosby.
Every year around Christmas, my family and I will often spend time showing each other funny clips on YouTube that have surfaced over the season, usually related specifically to the holiday. This clip will surely be on our roster for this year.
Rather than going for a hammy gimmick, the humor lays in the impressions, which are goofy but not overly animated, as well as in the attention to the details of the dialogue and movements. Probably the funniest aspect of the whole thing is revisiting the original and seeing just how ridiculous it is – David Bowie being just some rock star living down the street from pop vocalist Bing Crosby.
Its absurdity is a testament to the delightful nature of the Christmas season, and how really anything goes in terms of delivering warm, fuzzy, good natured programming. Of course there is a little embellishment in the remake, but it’s saved for the ending, which is quite hilarious.
