Watch: Beirut on ‘Fallon’

The Balkan folk band gives a spirited performance on “Late Night.”

Beirut have an undeniably original sound, so when seeing them perform even on a show like “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” which hosts some of the newest sounds in the business, it’s still an alarmingly different experience.

The band performed “Sante Fe” from their latest record, “The Rip Tide.” Frontman and mastermind Zac Condon leads the band with his commanding croon and may actually be the first performer on the show to throw down a flugelhorn solo.

Last night’s show was also a particularly great night for the Roots. The recurring segment, “Freestylin’ with the Roots,” where members of the audience are chosen as subjects for the Roots to make short songs about, was most excellent, and Naomi Watts’ walk on music, a slightly altered rendition of “Superthug” by Noreaga, was borderline genius. Check out Beirut’s performance below, but if you have a little more time, scroll down some more and watch the whole broadcast.
