The Jesus and Mary Chain officially broke up in 1999, putting an end to 15 years of speed and rock & roll. In 2007, the world was shocked to see them on the schedule for Coachella and to learn that they were intending to record a new album due tentatively for 2008. It’s been five years, and much like the Pixies before them, the band has failed to deliver on any new material aside from one stray track.
Regardless of a lack of new material, the band is still set to rekindle the excitement of their Coachella performance by playing SXSW this year along with two other Texas dates, and a show in New Orleans. Perhaps this will be a testing ground for what they’ve been cooking up for the past five years, but it’s more likely that these shows will be mainly a run through of “21 Singles”…and there really isn’t a damn thing wrong with that.
Here are the dates:
03-11 Denton, TX – 35 Denton Festival
03-12 New Orleans, LA – House of Blues
03-13 Houston, TX – House of Blues
03-14-18 Austin, TX – SXSW
Check out where we last left JAMC in ’07, with their performance of new song “All Things Must Pass,” on “The Late Show.”
