No Bill Maher for David Axelrod
Young, educated and urban, the audience for Bill Maher’s HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher” seems a perfect fit for President Obama’s reelection campaign. And apparently the president’s team believed so, as well: it was reported last week that communications manager David Axelrod was going to sit down at the outspoken comedian’s roundtable this week. No longer.
As the right continues to hammer Maher over his many misogynistic comments about Sarah Palin, (including calling her a “dumb twat”) and Rick Santorum’s children, campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt now says Axelrod is “not scheduled to go on at this time,” Politico reports. The site also points out that the Alabama Democratic Party is no longer advertising a planned fundraiser starring Maher.
It’s unclear whether these Democratic powers are trying to distance themselves from Maher and his controversial comments, but it’s more than likely that they are, proving perhaps that the right’s efforts to turn the Rush Limbaugh/Sandra Fluke scandal back onto liberals have been successful.
