Stephen Colbert doesn’t always interview musicians on “The Colbert Report,” but when he does it’s always great, such as his one-on-one with James Murphy, and his Radiohead interview. Colbert opens his interview with violin/whistler extraordinaire, Andrew Bird, with an offer for extreme fame, or as he calls it, “the Colbert bump.”
In addition to the five minute interview, Bird also stuck around to perform songs from his new album, “Break It Yourself,” out now on Bella Union and Mom + Pop. The spirited stomper “Eyeoneye,” which is roughly about a type of tumor that grows teeth and hair, was broadcast on the show, while the flowing waltz, “Danse Caribe,” is a web exclusive.
