Wild Flag, Carrie Brownstien’s band with whom she tours and puts out rad records when she’s not starring on “Portlandia” and writing memoirs, played a tour stop in Boston at The Paradise, where they did a cover of Fugazi’s classic “Margin Walker.”
There aren’t many bands who can pull off a Fugazi cover without getting sneered and laughed at from every corner of music fandom, but Wild Flag has serious 90s-rock credibility thanks to their roots in Sleater-Kinney and Helium. Aside from the novelty of seeing Fugazi’s distinctly male milieu transposed via female interpretation, Wild Flag sounds pretty damn good doing it.
They dialed the rock chronology back even further the same night, covering Television’s “See No Evil,” which you can see here.
