
Way back in 2009 before anyone had ever heard the name The Weeknd, Abel Tesfaye was apparently already busy making tracks for the moniker. At the time he was part of a production group known as The Noise, but he apparently made this track “Our Love” for himself in an early incarnation of what would become The Weeknd.
As you can hear below it’s super catchy, but not exactly cool. It’s sappy, and the dark, post-R&B soundscape The Weeknd is known for now is missing. Instead an upbeat track backs him up with bouncing rhythm and guitars that sound like they belong in the theme song to “Beverly Hills 90210.”
But it’s cool to see where an artist started out—it makes us appreciate how much they’ve evolved. Take a listen below.
