The fact that food porn makes us want to stuff our faces with carbohydrates and salty meat is no secret, nor is it a mystery of science, as evidenced by a new study from a team of researchers lead by Dr. Kathleen Page.

For their research, the group used MRIs to study the brain waves of 13 obese hispanic women ages 13-25 as they viewed images of “high-calorie foods, low-calorie foods, and non-food objects,” reports io9. When the subjects viewed food, their brains’ appetite centers lit up, the high-cal food sparking a stronger reaction than the low-cal food.
