Watch the ‘Cloud Atlas’ trailer, co-directed by Wachowski Brothers and Tom Tykwer

The Wachowski Brothers and Tom Tykwer have released the official trailer for their co-directed film “Cloud Atlas,” adapted from David Mitchell’s magnificent novel. The novel, which is essentially six interconnected novellas, ranges in styles reminiscent of Herman Melville and Philip K. Dick to Graham Green and Russell Hoban’s great novel “Riddley Walker.”

The six novellas are folded into each other like Russian nesting dolls. That is, the first narrative “The Pacific Journal of Adam Ewing” has the second narrative “Letters From Zedelghem” nested within it and so on through the six narratives.

(Read my breakdown of “Cloud Atlas” here.)

Tykwer took the period pieces, while the Wachowskis directed the two science fiction strands, the incredible “An Orison of Sonmi~451″ and equally mind-boggling and sublimely moving “Sloosha’s Crossin’ an’ Ev’rythin’ After.” The trailer itself looks immaculate. The styles work seemlessly and my god does the Wachowskis’ work on “An Orison of Sonmi-451″ look grand in all its cyberpunk glory.

Watch the trailer over at Apple Trailers (if you like it pristine looking, like us), or watch it below (a bit less glorious).
