Earlier this week Solar Bears released a sublime psychedelic dance remix of David Douglas’s track “California Poppy” (off of EP “Royal Horticultural Society“). It finds the Dublin-based duo exploring dance in a more direct way than past releases, which is a credit to their producing abilities.
The original has a stretched, lo-fi electronic quality to it, which is chopped to hell and stuffed with tasteful glitches. Solar Bears turn the song on its head, though, making it sound cosmic and timeless, using their sonic alchemy to push the remix through various permutations during its 4:04 running time.
The song will be appearing on a remix EP out September on Atomnation which will also feature Young Montana?. Dig the cover art lifted from David Caspar Friedrich’s painting “Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog.”
Stream the remix and check out the music video for the original mix of “California Poppy” below, which is itself a great psychedelic work.
