Animal Collective stream ‘Today’s Supernatural,’ first single from ‘Centipede Hz’

Animal Collective are gearing up to release their new record “Centipede Hz” on September 4—last night they premiered their weekly radio show, which will run every Sunday night through late August, and today they stream the first official single from the new record, “Today’s Supernatural.”

The single is a bit caustic, a departure from most of the material on “Merriweather Post Pavillion” and a return to form of some of the more chaotic, Avey Tare-driven sounds on “Strawberry Jam.” However, some of the earlier material we’ve heard from “Centipede Hz,” “Honeycomb” and “Gotham,” were somewhat more melodic, though certainly still on the psychedelic end of the spectrum.

Taken together, the first three tracks we’ve heard from “Centipede Hz” are a barrage on the senses. Which, of course, is what we expected. Tune in next Sunday for Animal Collective Radio here, and check out “Today’s Supernatural” below.
