A British man, swept up in the waves of Olympic ferver, leapt into the ocean in Biarritz, southern France this weekend, and announced he would swim his Olympic spirit all the way to America.
First thinking he was kidding, his friends watched until he swam past the 300 yard buoys, the legal limit for swimmers, and out of sight. Shortly later a helicopter found the swimmer, and dropped a diver into the ocean to explain that it might be wise to turn around.
By the time a rescue dinghy made its way out to the man, he relinquished his dreams and agreed to return to land.
