Los Angeles residents, prepare for the Potpoaclypse; all marijuana dispensaries to close on September 6th

OK. You guys.

All you Angelenos out there… man, I hate that name Angeleno… makes every Los Angeles resident sound like an Italian playboy… all of you need to run to the nearest marijuana dispensary and purchase as much marijuana as possible. The ban on legal marijuana in Los Angeles starts on September 6th. There is an opposing measure that would allow 182 Los Angeles-area marijuana dispensaries to remain open as they were opened before the year 2007, yet that bill still has to pass.

Take it by the handful. Take it by the armful. Wear a hat to put marijuana in your hat. Wear baggy clothes and stuff it down your pants or hooded sweatshirt so that you appear comically large. Whatever you do – get as much legal marijuana as possible until pot dispensaries can open again.

This fight is just childish and shameful. It's long past time to let this go. Ridiculous pseudo-medical dispensaries and fake medical cards from easily bought doctors are a symptom of a much larger problem. Americans adults deserve the right to make basic decisions like whether or not to purchase marijuana without more governmental interference than basic health regulation and taxation. Any more than that is unlawful social engineering and fake moral/religious posturing.

legalize it, tax it, and regulate it for adult only usage, unless prescribed for a child for cancer treatment

Nice comment. I think this is where the debate has to start. There are two issues. The first is that pot smokers do not know how to be honest and say "I smoke pot because it feels good, I smoke because I like the taste or I smoke because it takes the edge off." Pot heads need to learn how to stand up for what they believe and stop hiding behind medical marijuana. That is the only way the public will ever except it. The second issue is the Government. How is the government going to tax something you can make in your house? The only way the Government can compete is by growing their own "better" pot. But we know what happens when the government grows stuff, it gets laced with toxic chemicals that kill you slowly. So why would we want the government to be involved. Final thought, if you can't drink on the job then you can't bake on the job.

Maroni Reis so… we should then get rid of aspirin, acetaminophen, Nyquil, Motrin, Aleve, Vicks, Bengay, Percocet, Vicodin, Unisom, Lunesta, Excedrin, Valium, Xanax, etc etc etc? Give up EVERYTHING that manages symptoms and makes you feel better, Maroni, and come back and let me know how you feel. Honestly, you might as well go disconnect an IV from a hospice patient; "Oh, you don't need this Morphine, Ma'am, it's just 'covering' up your problem."

I'm not trying to sound like a dick, I just want to illustrate how illogical that particular argument against marijuana is. It's not just Maroni, it's politicians, government officials, right (and left!) wingers. People need to disregard their prejudices if they want to have anything worthwhile to add to this discussion.

I think there is just some confusion about what marijuana actually does. Like most medications, marijuana is there to deal with symptoms. It doesn't really cure anything, but it helps improve quality of life. When you have a cold, cold medicine doesn't cure your cold, it just helps you deal with it. Marijuana (medical) is the same idea.

However, you did make a good point about treating the symptoms rather than the cause. Marijuana is not a replacement for other options that help treat the actual problem, but it is a valuable tool when used along side of those other treatments.

i hope the government is not letting you suffer, of course you should get pain medicine if you need, but there are other ways too to treat you without medicine, if you tried before, and it didnt help then take whatever you want… if you have fever, try vinegar on your legs, if you have a bad cough try warm oil on your chest, if you have throught ache try warm water citron and a lot honey…or did you ever hear about chinese medicine?

Yeah, I have heard of home remedies… but I don't have a medical problem. Why would the government be involved in my suffering?

Also, I just wanted to point out that the Chinese were one of the earliest (documented) cultures who used marijuana for its medicinal value. Pretty wild how we come along and take away a medication with thousands of years of history and use and replace them with man-made medications that are produced in a lab and are tested for just 2 years. Crazy.

"In TCM, marijuana is known as Da Ma. Da Ma is difficult to purchase in China because it is considered to be poisonous. According to TCM theory, it restrains the functions of Brain Marrow and Fluids. This means that it will suppress the functions of the Central Nervous System. It is also has very strong Qi dispersing action. This means that if a person is already ill, it could potentially make for more problems. It also clouds the Shen, thus dulls a person’s spirit.

This doesn’t mean that Da Ma has no therapeutic effects. According to Dr. Li it can be useful for treating chronic cough, chronic diarrhea, hemorrhoids, anal prolapse, colitis, promoting digestive function, alleviating pain, and calming the mind for sleep. However, in Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine, Da Ma is never used alone. It is always used in combination with other herbs to create a synergistic effect and remove or reduce the nastier side effects. Da Ma is also only used in extremely small doses because of its potency. As with the majority of Chinese Herbal Medicines, Da Ma works best when ingested. That means either brewing it into an herbal infusion and drinking the decoction or just plain eating it. According to Dr. Li, smoking the herb is hazardous. When smoked Da Ma releases its poison directly into the Lungs and does more harm than good."

I think that this is important to note that this is happening under Obamas watch. The message I am getting from our President is "That while He will fight for our social reform, He will not allow US to sit on our butts and get BAKED." I can vote for a man like that.
