Pussy Riot sentenced: Watch the church performance that landed them two years in jail

Aug 17, 2012

On February 21 the riot-grrrl Russian punk act Pussy Riot went into the Christ The Savior cathedral in Moscow and performed a song protesting current president of Russia / shadowy overlord Vladimir Putin. In America or indeed most other places in the Western world, this would have been a case vandalism and not much more; kids being punks and being disruptive happens hundreds of times a day. But in Putin’s Russia, Pussy Riot have been jailed since the performance and have been sentenced to two years in a Russian jail.

Here’s a music video of the Pussy Riot song “Punk Prayer,” which features what appears to be a fair amount of footage of the performance.

And here’s some unedited footage, showing a lot more yelling from the angry Orthodox churchgoers:

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but if there’s such a thing as religious freedom shouldn’t there be such a thing as anti-religious freedom?
