For this morning’s interview with Power 953 in Orlando, President Obama weighed in on Nicki Minaj’s verse about being a Romney-voting Republican.
For the song “Mercy” on Lil’ Wayne’s new mixtape Dedication 4, Minaj rapped, “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/you lazy bitches are fucking up the economy,” a lyric which sent Twitter a-flutter, mostly with people going ballistic at Minaj for coming out as pro-Romney.
But while some were calling Minaj a “stupid ass bitch” and worse, others seemed in on her joke. As Talib Kweli tweeted, “I doubt Nicki seriously supports Romney. Her lyrics ain’t political. She just wants y’all to talk about her & she winning cuz it’s working!”
This morning, Obama seemed to fall into the latter group, responding to Power 953′s questions with, “I’m not sure that is actually what happened. I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that… But, she likes to play different characters. So I don’t know what’s going on there.”
Which means that Obama is not only familiar with Minaj’s rhymes, but also her alter-ego, Roman Zolanski.
