Tame Impala stream new album ‘Lonerism’

Perhaps someone’s dosing Perth, Australia’s water supply with mind-altering drugs, because there’s really no explanation as to why the hometown boys Tame Impala are so damned psychedelic. The band recently dropped a kaleidoscopic music video and several remixes of their single “Elephant,” including the Todd Rundgren reworking. Now they’re streaming the new album “Lonerism” via NPR.

Album opener “Be Above It” is an incredible statement about the album as a work of art. The song, with its propulsive and exceedingly odd percussion, matched with synths, precisely-placed blasts of noise and effected guitars, is an ecstatically beautiful head-trip. Indeed, the song could play endlessly and I wouldn’t even mind. It has that sort of effect, folks.

Stay tuned for the Death and Taxes album review tomorrow. Meantime, stream the album below.
