Ulrich Schnauss releases single ‘A Long Way To Fall’

Ulrich Schnauss is returning with his first solo LP in six years, “A Long Way To Fall.” But it’s not as if the man has been a hermit. In March of 2012, I interviewed Schnauss about the album “Underrated Silence,” an album he recorded with Mark Peters of Engineers. In those six years Schnauss has played keys for the Engineers and Longview and been otherwise quite active.

The single “A Long Way To Fall” is classic Schnauss. Out of the gate, there are the synth washes and gentle percussion. But the bass is the most fascinating component here—it is a steady throb. And the chord progressions are as sublime and flawless as always. One can even hear a little Blade Runner-esque mood to the proceedings. Schnauss drops the release at 3:02, adding more propulsive layers of percussion amidst the dense swirl of synths.
