Ugandan politicians stressed to their constituents that the anti-homosexuality law will come into effect in December. They insist that their people are “demanding it.” Methinks they doth protest too much. Gay Star News reports that the bill is split into two categories:
‘Aggravated homosexuality’ is defined as gay acts committed by parents or authority figures, HIV-positive people, pedophiles and repeat offenders. If convicted, they will face the death penalty.
The ‘offense of homosexuality’ includes same-sex sexual acts or being in a gay relationship, and will be prosecuted by life imprisonment.
In a Pew Research study 89% of Ugandans believed homosexuality to be immoral with some lawmakers even calling for a continent-wide ban.

Actually, killing gay people because of their sexual orientation would not be genocide. Genocide requires that the targeted group is ethnically, racially, nationally, or religiously distinct.
