5 nuttiest Obama conspiracy theories of 2012
Tracking the various Obama conspiracy theories is something like a psychiatrist trying to map the dark contours of the schizophrenic’s brain: exhausting, astonishing and ultimately futile. So I chose five of my favorite Obama conspiracy theories of 2012 for easy consumption on this fine New Year’s Eve day.
1. Obama staged Newtown, Aurora and the Sikh Temple Massacres, plus ‘Fast and Furious’ to take away Americans’ guns
This doozy of a conspiracy theory was bandied about all over the internet, but not by any legitimate conservative media. The conspiracy theory was embraced by paranoid, Alex Jones-loving Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, who stated at a concert in Singapore, “Back in my country, my president is trying to pass a gun ban so he’s staging all of these murders. The ‘Fast and Furious’ thing down at the border. And Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there. And now, the beautiful people at the Sikh temple.”
To date Mustaine hasn’t commented on the Newtown Massacre, but no one should rule him out.
WorldNetDaily (WND), a gleeful participant in the Obama “birther” conspiracy theory, wasted no time in attributing the Newtown Massacre to Obama.
The site published an editorial entitled “Mass Shootings: Who Started the Fires?” stating “the Sandy Hook shooting occurred just days after Sen. Rand Paul sent out an alert that the U.N. was set to pass the final version of the Small Arms Treaty, supported by Obama the day after election.” Dean then goes on to invoke Adolf Hitler’s attack of the Reichstag as a point of comparison: “Hitler was responsible for attacking his own Reichstag to start a world war. Hitler was also responsible for sending his brownshirts to incite the people so he could play the role of solving their problems. No one believed Hitler was guilty of these crimes until after the fact.”
The problem is that the UN small arms treaty doesn’t ban the sale of guns here in the US. And even if Obama wanted to use the UN treaty to circumvent the Second Amendment, he wouldn’t legally be able to do so.
2. Obama will engineer a third term
Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh and WorldNetDaily’s Joseph Farah have all to varying degrees suggested this theory. Limbaugh got the jump on them all, “predicting” in 2009 that Obama would make a third term power grab despite the 22nd Amendment preventing him from doing so. (See, it’s an easy jump to make when one assumes that nearly every Obama action is unconstitutional.)
Farah stated in an interview with VCY America’s Vic Eliason:
Eliason: Interesting on Fox this morning, there is somebody promoting that there is a possibility if certain things happen that the President could be in for a third term, I got chills.
Farah: Listen, if you don’t believe in the Constitution and you’ve got a President who is not even eligible under the Constitution to serve, anything is possible, isn’t it? See the difference with the United States of America is that we’re supposed to be a country under the rule of law and that starts with the Constitution and that’s the most important law we have. And yet we ignore it every single day in Washington, every single day. Most acts of Congress are unconstitutional; we’ve gotten to that point. And the President has no—, he thinks we have a living Constitution that could mean whatever he wants it to mean. So hey, I wouldn’t rule it out.
And here’s a video of Alex Jones ranting about a third Obama term; which of course the president will be able to do after he engineers the “mass depression.”
3. Obama engineered the CIA Petraeus-Broadwell scandal to cover up Benghazi
This conspiracy theory assumes that the other Obama cover-up (the anti-Muslim video) failed. Once this is assumed, the rest is easy. Obama then asked for General Petraeus’s resignation in order to stop him from testifying, but only made the affair public just before the election to cover the Benghazi trail—or so said Breitbart’s Ben Shapiro. Petraeus testified anyway!
4. Obama cooked the Labor Statistics books (and managed to keep everyone silent!)
This theory wasn’t just limited to the conservative fringe. Indeed, former GM CEO Jack Welch tweeted “Unbelievable jobs numbers..these Chicago guys will do anything..can’t debate so change numbers.”

Oh, what glorious paranoia!
5. Obama triggered Hurricane Sandy to win 2012 election
The conservative fringe wasted little time in attributing Hurricane Sandy to President Obama’s evil genius machinations. Again, we must turn to InfoWars for this preposterous theory.
InfoWars’ Kurt Nimmo writes:
Sandy’s timing has many people speculating that the storm’s path is an engineered event. On Thursday,HaarpStatus.com reported elevated levels of HAARP frequency in the ionosphere above the East Coast of the United States. HaarpStatus describes itself as “a real-time sensor network from over 28 sensors placed in rural areas across the United States…
If the research conducted by HaarpStatus.com is correct, the government (or factions within) are manipulating the ionosphere and driving Sandy into the East Coast to create chaos and Katrina-like post storm conditions that will have significant political ramifications during the November 6th election.
Nimmo and the entire InfoWars staff should be writing science fiction.
