I don’t know if it’s a full moon or something, but the celebrity gossip news this morning is reading like the backstory to an episode of Jerry Springer. We’ve got Chris Brown assaulting Frank Ocean, Randy Quaid being denied refugee status in Canada, and Rick Ross getting shot at in his Rolls Royce and then crashing into a building as he made his escape.

The alleged Rick Ross drive-by is the first high-profile hip hop shooting in a while, following the 2010 death of Hot 97′s “DJ Megatron” and last year’s shooting of rapper M-Bone as he was leaving the studio. But the days of rap’s top players falling like dominos seemingly every other day do feel like a bygone era at this point.

For his part, 50 Cent apparently doesn’t believe anyone actually shot at Rick Ross. This morning he tweeted:

In recent years it’s seemed the fetishization of shooting and getting shot as a status symbol in rap has begun to fade. Let’s hope the trend continues. According to reports allegedly “dozens” of rounds were fired at Ross’s car in the drive-by. In an interview last month Rick Ross noted of his feud with 50 Cent that wringing his neck “would be an option” if he ever ran into them.
