This week in Tampa, Florida, 18 year-old Aalaya Walker preheated her oven to warm up some waffles not knowing her roommate had chosen the appliance as a safe place to store some bullets. When she opened the door, ammunition, which can ignite at as low as 290 degrees, exploded all over the place and sprayed her with shrapnel.
Her roommate, Javarski ‘JJ’ Sandy, 25, had stashed a pistol magazine with four live rounds. The shrapnel hit Walker in the chest and leg. Officers said the injuries were superficial and not life threatening, but according to The Mail, “Ms Walker said she picked brass shell casing fragments out of her skin as she rode the bus to the hospital.”
Mr. Sandy legally owns a 45 caliber glock 21 semiautomatic, which was in the drawer when the explosion occurred. Police believe it was an accident, not an ingenius plan to kill his frozen-waffle-loving roommate and escape from blame, and are letting him off the hook.
