Doctors busted for putting fake mustache and teardrop stickers on woman during surgery, taking pics
A woman from Torrance, California is suing doctors for getting totally punked while under the knife.
Veronica Valdez had worked at the Torrance Medical Center for 13 years and had a good rapport with medical staff. So when she had to have a surgery at the center she worked at, her anesthesiologist Dr. Patrick Yang thought she “would get a kick” out of it if he played a prank on her while she was out cold.
He put a fake mustache and teardrop stickers on her, took pics with his cell phone, and shared them with hospital staff.
“I think she would get a laugh out of it,” he told attorneys according to Daily Breeze. “She would appreciate it, [I] thought that was funny. I don’t recall my state of mind except that I thought she would think that was funny, so I did that so she would get a kick out of it.”
Needless to say, Valdez found this joke way less funny than the anesthesiologist did. Coworkers said they saw the photo on Facebook and Valdez’s attorney said “everyone in the room laughed at Valdez when they saw it.” She’s now suing over the 2011 incident, and her lawyer sounded pissed:
“There’s no such thing as a joke in the operating room. For them to play a joke is cruel in my opinion,” said her attorney. “I have not seen anything like this. It’s an incredible breach of privacy, of HIPAA, of common decency, of the Hippocratic Oath.”
The hospital pushed back, acknowledging that a “breach of professionalism” occurred, but saying, “most of the allegations stated in the plaintiff’s complaint are factually inaccurate, grossly exaggerated or fabricated.”
For her part Valdez said that she couldn’t face going back to work at the hospital and it ruined her career of 13 years.
At the very least, looks like the docs should have used SnapChat, eh?
