It’s a crying shame that Frankie Rose and her ilk might be dismissed by people who are fed up with the recent flux of sleepy, 60s-inspired girl bands.
Rose is partially responsible for much of the music that brought on the backlash, having performed with Dum Dum Girls, Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls. But on “Little Brown Haired Girls,” she’s found her most winning incarnation.
The band charms its way through three minutes by accenting Frankie’s drawling, sing-song vocals with shimmering guitar licks and straightforward percussion.
Although the lyrics don’t get any more specific than “I’ll be on my own/It’s a long, long way from home,” sometimes that’s all you need when you’re out on the open road.
You can listen to “Little Brown Haired Girls” on their MySpace. If you like what you hear, their self-titled debut debuts on Slumberland, September 21.
