Ridley Scott is down to make ‘another six’ films for the ‘Alien’ franchise
Ridley Scott is one of the busiest septuagenarian directors out there, and he doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. Scott’s currently working on “Alien: Covenant,” and the first set visit reports that have been trickling out are full of chest-burstingly juicy details. (Scott’s also been hard at work on “Blade Runner 2049,” which is being directed by Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve.)
First of all, Scott knows peeps are hungry for more aliens. Screw being coy; he’s gonna give the people what they want and need.
What we did really well on ‘Prometheus,’ considering that it was a ground zero idea that was starting all over again, was I discovered that people do have an appetite for the alien and what he means and his evolution — the egg, the facehugger, the chestburster as we call them. People still want to see it. So I return to a little bit of that but not wholeheartedly; there’s a lot in here which is new as well.
(Uh, we all know the queen xenomorphs are the coolest, so what’s up with this “he” business?)
In any case, Scott is anticipating the latest installment will be a big enough hit that he’ll be called on to make quite a few more. And he’s ready to churn ‘em out. “If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I’m not going to close it down again. No way.”
Katherine Waterston seems to be playing a Ripley-esque badass, although there’s no word on a clone of Jones yet. We can only hope.
“Alien: Covenant” will be attaching itself to your face on May 19. Check out a gnarly red band trailer here.
